"The Jilting of Granny Weatherall"

The literary element is stream-of-consciousness. Granny is dying throughout the story and we hear her thoughts. In at least 100 words give your opinion of Granny's dying thoughts and why Granny feels she has been jilted again at the end of the story.

I think her dying thoughts are kind of confusing it is a little hard to follow what are just her thoughts and what is really going on. Granny is angry with the Doctor as well but I really don't understand why that is, she goes back to tell him about how he needs to respect his elders and how she overcame illnesses before he was even born. She talks about being jilted before so she seems sad about that but she said she was no longer afraid of death. At the end of the story Granny feels that she has been jilted yet again because in the end she comes to realize that she is dying.

I think Granny's thoughts are very confusing, I think this because I could not follow what she was saying about her thoughts which in return made me very confused. Some of her thoughts that she talked about was kind of sad but made sense in a weird twisted way. Like when she wanted to spank a girl. It just sounded really weird how she said it. She thought she was jilted because she finally realized that she was dying. So she then came to conclusion that she could not stop this situation so she was no longer afraid of death.

I still don't understand why they don't just say "the dumping of granny Weatherall". I thought that the book was very interesting especially on what she had to say. In the Story she explains that she has been jilted many times in her lifetime. She talked about her family and how she missed them and how she wanted to see them. Towards the end of her life time her opinion about some of her family changed and she thought differently about other people as she was nearing the end of her life. Towards the end of her life she wanted to be with her family more than usual and she didn't want to be dumped anymore.

In the story "The Jilting of Granny Weatherall" I didn't like her dying thoughts. I think if you are dying you should be appreciative of what you had and you shouldn't be leaving anger towards people who may have done you wrong. She should have forgiven those who treated her badly. I think Granny should have been using her last moments to be telling her loved ones that she loves them and will miss them. She should also be reminiscing about the good times she has had and not dwelling on the times she has been jilted. She felt rejected at the end of the story because her family wasn’t taking care of her. I think this was bad on the family’s part.

In "The Jilting of Granny Weatherall" Granny is talking and remembering all of her past lovers and youth. She tells of her letters she received and gave out over the years, and how one of those men that gave her the notes broke her heart my leaving her on the alter on their wedding day. She says how if she were to ever meet him again she would show him how she found a much better man, and had a better house and children than he would have given her. She tells of her husband and of her children and how they sometimes annoy her but she still loves them none the less, and at the end of the story she tells how she hates surprises. To her surprise though she finds herself dyeing and her children are there to watch we die, this once again jilted her and she didn't even see it coming.

Grannies comments during the story are very interesting. She thinks back on all the times she was hurt and left by many of her loved ones. She just wants to be left alone to think about her thoughts and people keep coming into the room and bothering her. Granny is very sick and keeps having thought about George because she’s dying. Her family is not even around her she’s just imagining them around her remembering all the times she was left alone in her life. She was in love with George. She would have married him but after he left her she married somebody else and had kids.

In "The Jilting of Granny Weatherall" Granny's thoughts were all over the place. This is understandable because she lived a very long eventful life. I think that if I were in her place my thoughts would be jumbled too. She thought about her family a lot. She thought about how she has changed over the years. She also thought about her husband and some other man that rejected her. Granny felt like she was being rejected again at the end of the story because she felt like she wasn't ready to leave. She felt like her death was a surpise and she wished had gotten things that she had wanted done.

I think that Granny feels jilted again by God. I think she feels this way because he is taking her at an inconvenient time. He dying thoughts pretty much revolve around her family. I thought that this showed a lot of love towards her family.

I think she had been aware that how she would been when she was a little. Every body must have this kind of experiences for old people, even herself. The thought which she had a long time ago came to her now. She knew what every one thinks about her. And I felt she were pretending as if she does not care about it. She loved her children, and surely children loved her so much. But the time passed, they left home and getting less times to see her. But when her death came, they came to her. I think it made her felt been jilted. Also, her doctor did not let her know her death. That made her confuse and worry. She had many of things she wanted to. They should let her know.

I personally thought this story was horrible. Granny seems really rude and hostile. She talks about spanking Cornelia for being so good, obviously this lady has lost her mind. It is totally understandable that she is depressed and she accepts the fact that she won't live forever. There is a point where she is confused what time of day it is. As Granny is dying she recolects on her life she has lived. She feels jilted by her past lover George, however she was married to another. At the end Granny just wants to be able to lay down and rest in peace after she has passed on.

In this story, I found Granny to be rather regretful of how her family life, while she was still alive, had transpired. Her dying thoughts hint to the fact that she feels she has been "jilted" in how George and her family, especially her children, have treated her throughout her life and in her later years. This is exceptionally frustrating for Granny considering that she had been a nice person and a true companion within her lifelong relationships. This feeling of contempt culminates in the last segment of her life as she is lying on her death bed.

In this story we hear Granny's thoughts as she is dying. Her family life was not the best back in her later years. She had been jilted once before. George jilted Granny sixty years ago. She later married John. Now she feels that she is being jilted because her family doesn't want to be with her any more and they are all trying to get away from her. She had some really weird thoughts. I remember one where she talked about spanking her daughter. She is also this whole time in this story looking for Hapsy. Hapsy is one of her children, but she never finds him.

In the story, "The Jilting of Granny Weatherall" by Katherine Anne Porter, the type of writing that is used is stream of consciousness. The way this is used was to illustrate all of Granny Weatherall's thoughts. Her thoughts would drift from thinking of her past, things she must get done, how her daughter, Cornelia, annoys her, and the men in her past. She doesn't like the way Cornelia whispers to Doctor Harry and wishes she would not treat her like she is deaf, dumb, and blind. Granny Weatherall was jolted sixty years ago when she was abandoned by George. She loved George and now wanted him to know that she found a husband, had children, and a house like a woman should. Now, Granny Weatherall was being jilted by her family because they did not wish to be with her and seemed to excuse everything she did because she was eighty years old. As you can see, this type of writing brings to attention many of the characters thoughts.

I believe that even though granny's thoughts are rather confusing its almost honest in the way that maybe this is the way someone who is slowly losing their memory might think. I believe she is jilted again by God. She expects to see someone waiting there at the end and yet shes alone again just like she was at the altar.
